The fact that Jewish people in Ireland are afraid to openly identify as Jewish and feel they have to justify their grief over October 7th should concern everyone.
Why does it seem to be only Jews who are singled out like this? There are far worse wars happening across the world, yet the excessive focus on Israel and the targeting of Jewish people here in Ireland continues.
A Persian Jew told me he is preparing to leave Ireland. He cannot believe the obsession with Jewish people here and says the only thing he has seen comparable to it is from that repulsive regime back home in Iran.
Singling out one ethnic group while ignoring far worse wars elsewhere raises serious questions about prejudice. I have no idea how anyone could believe otherwise.
Whenever someone visits my profile with smart remarks about being Jewish or about Israel, I look at their profiles. Do you know what I never see?
I never see them targeting Chinese people here over the CCP’s treatment of the Uyghurs. I never see them demanding that Syrian people here answer for Assad’s regime slaughtering an estimated 600,000 people, including Palestinians, or for its use of chemical weapons.
Think about that. The estimated death toll from Assad’s regime is almost ten times the reported civilian death toll in Gaza. These events happened right next door to the country people are obsessively preoccupied with. Where is the comparable outrage?
I never see them targeting Palestinian people or businesses here and demanding that they answer for Hamas’s atrocities on October 7th. Civilians were murdered and taken hostage. Palestinian civilians participated in the kidnapping of the Bibas family. Two Irish-Israelis were killed, and another was kidnapped and held hostage for 50 days. Where is the same relentless targeting of Palestinian people here?
Where is the same obsession with targeting people from those countries or their communities over the actions of governments, individuals or armed groups?
It is clear as day that Jewish people alone are being singled out, and collective punishment somehow only seems acceptable when the people being collectively punished are Jews.
I’m pro-Israel. I believe Jewish people need somewhere safe to go. If the current climate doesn’t prove that, I honestly don’t know what will. Now and throughout history, there always seems to be another excuse to target Jews.
I have repeatedly said that I do not wish harm on the Palestinian people. I’m not a fan of the current Israeli government, and I disagree with the behaviour of extremist settlers in Judea and Samaria/the West Bank.
I’m entitled to my political opinions, just like everyone else. I should not have to justify my views or identity to anyone, especially not strangers on the internet.
I’ve never posted anything inappropriate, wished harm on Palestinians or celebrated civilian casualties. Yet I’ve seen some of the pro-Palestinians here do exactly that. I’ve seen people who claim to stand for human rights laugh and celebrate October 7th. I was in my final year of my law degree when October 7th took place, and I was shocked and horrified by what I saw from some students.
I’ve also seen people here regularly chant ‘From the river to the sea...’ which calls for the annihilation of the State of Israel and the genocide of its Jewish and Arab populations and other communities.
Sometimes I genuinely wonder whether people broadcasting their supposed virtue so loudly are doing so to disguise their true nature.
Jewish people should not have to hide who they are, apologise for being Jewish, defend their grief over October 7th, or accept threats and harassment because of their identity or political beliefs, just as nobody else should have to endure such treatment because of who they are.
That should not be a controversial position.

This is correct. I don't mention I am Jewish. It's not wise.
